BIRD TO DETAIL EFFORTS FOR INDUSTRIAL GROWTH

Daniel Bird Jr., a former state senator, will give his first speech since deciding not to seek re-election.

Bird will speak at the winter quarterly of the Joint Industrial Development Authority dinner meeting Thursday.

The Democrat served for 16 years in the Senate. He will talk about the General Assembly's efforts to promote industrial and economic growth.

The meeting will start with a 6 p.m. reception, sponsored by AMSCO Products, with the dinner at 6:45 p.m. at the Wytheville Ramada Inn. Tickets are $15.
