NARROWS RALLY NIPS SHAWSVILLE

Brian Evans, McCreery Mann and Chad Fleedman each scored 17 points, and Narrows used a big fourth quarter to rally to a last-minute, 71-69 victory over Shawsville in a Mountain Empire District boys' basketball game Tuesday night.

After trailing the entire game, Narrows (4-3 overall, 4-3 Mountain Empire) took its first lead when Evans made two free throws with 30 seconds remaining to put the Green Wave up 70-69.

Shawsville missed, and Mann sealed the victory by making a free throw.

Down 52-48 going into the fourth, Narrows came back behind 3-point and free-throw shooting.

Evans made two of his three 3-pointers, and Mann made his two 3-pointers in the fourth. The Green Wave also converted nine of 14 free throws in the quarter. For the game, Narrows made seven 3-pointers and 22 of 31 free-throw attempts.

Kenny Dow paced Shawsville (1-7, 0-7) with 29 points, and Mike Roop added 12. \

Brookville 54

Jefferson Forest 52

FOREST - Ayo Lawson's shot from underneath the hoop fell through the net at the buzzer, giving the Bees a Seminole District overtime victory against the host Cavaliers.

Jefferson Forest (5-5, 5-5) overcame a 10-point Brookville lead in the final four minutes, sending the game into overtime on Barret Bryant's basket with 10 seconds remaining in regulation.

Brookville (8-2, 8-2) was led by Lawson's 22 points. Ryan Gilleland had 16 points for the losers. \

Fort Chiswell 85

Auburn 72

MAX MEADOWS - The Pioneers drilled Auburn 33-18 in the fourth quarter to end up on top of a Mountain Empire District matchup and remain undefeated.

Brian Lampkins led the charge with 26 points for Fort Chiswell (9-0, 7-0), and Shane Woods added 17. Chad Coley and Doug Mabry combined for 24 points and 26 rebounds.

For the Eagles (5-4, 4-3), Brian Sale scored 22 points, Ponch Linkous 17, Terry Millirons 14 and Bradley Hudgins 11. \

Gateway Christian 67

Ballard 28

BALLARD, W.Va. - Kevin Lucas scored 12 points to lead 11 scoring Crusaders in a rout of Ballard (W.Va.).

Gateway (7-4) took a 21-7 first-quarter lead and emptied the bench early. Leslie Spencer scored 10 points to lead Ballard (2-7). \

Alleghany 71

Radford 65

COVINGTON - Alleghany saw a 17-point fourth-quarter lead shrink to three but held off the charging Bobcats for a non-district victory.

The Mountaineers (7-3) led 60-43 with four minutes remaining, but missed six of seven free throws - including three one-and-ones - over a three-minute span as Radford (2-8) pulled to 63-60.

But Alleghany, which made 13 of 21 free throws for the game, converted the free throws down the stretch to hold onto its lead.

The Mountaineers took a 33-21 halftime lead with the help of four second-quarter 3-pointers, two by Brian Freeland. Alleghany outscored Radford 21-11 in the quarter.

The Bobcats scored 33 points in the fourth quarter after having 32 in the first three. Kris Smith had 13 of his 18 points in the final quarter, Duane Pierson had 10 of his 15 and Chris Hairston eight of his game-high 22.

Hairston had five 3-pointers in the game. The teams combined for a total of 14 3-pointers and 60 fourth-quarter points.

Jay Easton powered Alleghany by scoring 13 of his team-high 20 points in the final quarter. \

North Cross 60

Timberlake Christian 52

FOREST - With Marcus Cardwell leading the way with seven, the Raiders made 12 of 14 free throws in the final quarter to take a Virginia Independent Conference victory.

Leading 44-33 after three quarters, North Cross (6-7, 3-2) held Timberlake Christian (4-8, 0-6) at bay with its free-throw shooting. Cardwell scored 14 points, Mike Bryan added 12 points with nine rebounds and Stuart Baucom had nine points and seven assists. \
