CRASH INJURIES KILL TEEN-AGE STUART DRIVER

A 19-year-old Stuart woman died Tuesday afternoon from injuries suffered in a Jan. 5 car accident in Stokes County, N.C.

A car driven by Katina Ellen Plaster crossed the center line on North Carolina 8 about 400 feet south of the Virginia line, started sliding sideways along the left shoulder and struck three trees on the driver's side, North Carolina state police reported.

Plaster suffered severe head injuries, Trooper R.E. Clendenin said. She was transported by helicopter to North Carolina Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem, N.C., where she remained in intensive care.

Clendenin said he believed Plaster may have fallen asleep because there were no skid marks. The accident occurred between 2:15 a.m. and 2:30 a.m.

Plaster was wearing a seat belt, but her 1966-model car was not equipped with shoulder harnesses.
