VA. GETS FEDERAL GRANT FOR MINE RECLAMATION
The federal government has awarded Virginia more than $3 million for a project to reclaim abandoned mines in six counties, U.S. Sen. John Warner announced Tuesday.The grant, which totals $3,388,686, was awarded by the office of Surface Mining Reclamation and Enforcement in the U.S. Department of the Interior.
The money will be used to shore up and reclaim 12 mine projects in the counties of Buchanan, Chesterfield, Lee, Russell, Tazewell and Wise. In Buchanan, the grant also will fund construction of public water systems along Virginia 609, 614 and 664. - Associated Press
