WYTHEVILLE APPOINTS FEMALE FIREFIGHTER

Wytheville Town Council has named a woman to the town's fire department, although she was not recommended by other department members.

The other firefighters declined to say why they did not recommend Kathy Davidson for membership.

This will be Davidson's second stint with the unit.

She had been a member for more than eight years and had been the department's treasurer and training officer.

She applied directly to council for an appointment.

At its meeting Monday night, council named her and Larry Grubb, who did get a department recommendation, to the department. - Southwest bureau
