GLENVAR TURNS BACK CRAIG

Craig County was poised to score the season's biggest upset in the Pioneer District, but Glenvar recovered and stayed unbeaten with a 68-51 boys' basketball victory on Tuesday night.

Craig (1-9 overall, 1-7 Pioneer) took a 20-8 lead after one quarter by spreading out its offense against Glenvar's man-to-man and getting the ball to Timesland's leading scorer, David McPherson. The off guard had 13 of the Rockets' first-quarter points.

In the second quarter, however, Glenvar (7-0, 7-0) adjusted by going to a half-court trap and pressure defense to neutralize McPherson. The Highlanders outscored the Rockets 28-11 to take a 36-31 halftime lead.

In the final half, the Highlanders played a box-and-one to further diminish the Craig star's return. He had only 11 more points in the game.
