MANY JAPANESE DEATHS AVERTED TOO
I APPLAUD Herbert Reininger's letter in your Dec. 30 issue. I would like to add that in addition to almost 2 million Allied casualties just in a landing on the Japanese mainland, there would have been larger numbers of Japanese casualties.Professional America-bashers choose not to think about what would have happened if the atomic bombs had not been dropped.
I am retired. I was in the U.S. Army in Europe during World War II, and after victory in Europe fully expected to be sent directly to the Pacific. Fortunately, victory over Japan came a lot sooner than expected. WALTER H. PFISTER GALAX
