BOOK FOCUSES ON LETTERS FROM DESERT STORM AND OTHER WARS
The U.S. Postal Service recently published "Letters From the Sands: The Letters of Desert Storm and Other Wars," to encourage Americans to rediscover the art of letter writing.Richard Leonberger, a Waco postal worker, said the book focuses on war letters because people tend to write more during wars.
"Letter writing is more popular during wars because it often is the only way to communicate with soldiers," he said. "Letters are the second most important thing to soldiers. Ammunition is the first."
The 168-page book is filled with pictures and letters to and from soldiers, dating as far back as the Civil War. It is dedicated to Desert Storm soldiers, their families and friends.
The $24.95 book can be purchased at any post office. The price includes four commemorative stamps.
