BOUCHER GETS EDUCATORS' GROUP HONOR

The Virginia Association of Broadcast Educators has named Rep. Rick Boucher, D-Abingdon, for its 1992 Achievement Award based largely on his efforts to bring broadcast signals and educational opportunities to rural Virginians.

Through the Star Schools Program Assistance Act, Boucher sought funds for satellite technology to bring educational programs to rural schools. He has also worked to see that backyard satellite dish owners continued to get network signals. He also secured a grant to help fund public radio service to far Southwest Virginia.
