BEYER DELAYS '93 DECISION

Lt. Gov. Don Beyer has postponed his decision on whether to run for governor in 1993 and has acknowledged a challenge against Attorney General Mary Sue Terry "would be very difficult."

Supporters of Beyer and Terry have said they expect Beyer to defer to the attorney general because of her continuing front-runner status among Democratic Party activists and her head start in fund raising.

Beyer is still $1 million in debt from his 1989 campaign for lieutenant governor.

He hinted during a interview that he may concede the Democratic nomination to Terry as early as spring.

He said he'll wait until after the General Assembly adjourns to make a decision. The 1992 session ends March 7. - Associated Press
