ARRESTED FOR SEEKING FRESH AIR?
WE ATTENDED a Christmas party at the Salem Civic Center. This was a private party and drinking was allowed. The room was hot and smoky. A guest had too much to drink and went outside for some fresh air. Security guards called Salem police and this guest was arrested for being drunk in public.
What public? There was no one around but those at the party inside. This guest was not causing trouble and had a designated driver. The people he came with were leaving at 12 midnight and the police arrested him at 11:55 p.m. for walking outside.
Because of this incident, I will not attend another party at the Salem Civic Center for fear I would be locked up for walking outside for some fresh air. If the city of Salem is so hard up for $18, then I'm glad I do not live in Salem. PAM HAYTH GOODVIEW
