WILLOUGHBY, ALFRED J.

Alfred Jackson (Jack) Willoughby, age 73, of Roanoke, passed away January 16, 1992. Born in Nelson County, Va. on August 5, 1918 to the late Andrew Jackson and Florie Chewning Willoughby. Mr. Willoughby was preceded in death by a sister, Dorothy Willoughby Griffin. He retired from the Roanoke City Fire Department as a Captain after serving 38 years and 3 months. Mr. Willoughby served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a 32nd Degree Mason, a member of the Scottish Rites and Shriners. Mr. Willoughby was a honorary member of the Chamblissburg Ruritan Club and an active member of the Waverly Place Baptist Church where he was a member of the Pal Class. Surviving are his wife of 52 years, Teacy Jordan Willoughby; four children and their spouses, Linwood Jackson and Pamela Willoughby, Moneta; Shelva Jean and James D. Mounts, Williamsburg; Gordon Allen and Patricia Willoughby; Alfred Dwayne and Tricia Willoughby, all of Roanoke; 12 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one brother, Fred Walker Willoughby, Lovingston. Funeral services will be at Oakey's Vinton Chapel 11:00 a.m. Saturday with the Rev. Charles Hoffler officiating. Interment will be in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens.
