`TOSCA' PERFORMANCE JAN. 25 AT RU

The New York City Opera will perform "Tosca" Jan. 25 in Radford University's Preston Auditorium. The appearance marks the third straight year that the opera company has performed at the university.

Set during Napoleon's conquest of Italy, the story revolves around a beautiful singer, Flora Tosca. Geraldine McMillian, a graduate of the Julliard School, will perform the title role.

Tenor Robert Brubaker, a 13-year veteran of the New York City Opera, will play Tosca's lover, Cavaradossi. Brubaker recently made guest appearances with the Seattle Opera and the Greater Miami Opera.

Peter Lightfoot, baritone, will appear as Scarpia, a perverse official who desires Tosca. In addition to performances with the New York City Opera, Lightfoot has performed with the Piedmont Opera Theater.

A lecture before the opera is scheduled for Tuesday at 7 p.m. in Lounge B of Heth Hall. Eugene Fellin, chairman of the Radford University music department, will preview the most climactic scene in the second act of the opera.

Admission to Tuesday's lecture is free. Tickets for the Jan. 25 performance are $12 for adults and $6 for children. Radford University students will be admitted for $1 with proper identification.

For ticket information, call the information desk in Heth Hall at 831-5420.
