SOME NOT AWARE WHAT IT MEANS TO HAVE ELECTRICITY
THE JAN. 7 article by George Kegley, "Trail Club protects power line," reported that Dr. William Gordge, leader of the trail club, is upset that the proposed power-transmission line will mess up his mountain scenery.I am not an employee of Appalachian Power Co., nor do I have stock in it; but I do like what electricity does for me. Since the only feasible way for power to get to me from the place where it is generated is on an above-ground wire, I kind of think those power lines are right pretty.
I was 12 years old before we had electric power in our house. I suppose it is understandable that people who have never had to live without it don't appreciate it as much as I do.
I sometimes wish that the people who complain so much about power lines and such would have to do without electricity for a while. I believe that a few days when the lights didn't come on when they flipped the switch might make them change their tune a little. WILLIAM M. GUTHRIE DUBLIN
