A READER'S PLEA FOR WRINKLE-FREE NEWS
I HAVE a happy memory of years past when a page of the newspaper was smooth and as wrinkle-free as the cheek of your childhood sweetheart.Evidently, time has brought new technology that has made it necessary to take each page in both hands (on opposite edges) and pull out the wrinkles that otherwise make the stories quite unreadable. This is not a now-and-then affair, but can be depended upon as the night follows the day.
Since pulling out the wrinkles exposes printing, the problem is obviously not in the print stations but probably later in the operation - rewinding, folding? - but then, you know your process much better than we do.
Can't we have old-fashioned wrinkle-free news? CHARLES STUMPP ROANOKE
Editor's note: New machinery and parts for the folder are being installed. The hope is that these will ease this persistent problem.
