AGENCY WANTS LAND IN FRANKLIN FOR LESS
Plans to sell a run-down school property to a Franklin County human services agency are still alive, but the agency wants the Board of Supervisors to reduce the price from $280,000.Officials from Support to Eliminate Poverty, or STEP, will present a counteroffer at the Board of Supervisors' monthly meeting Tuesday.
STEP is seeking to house its federally sponsored jobs training and day care programs at the Continuing Education Center on Dent Street. Plans also include possibly leasing space to the county Department of Social Services.
The anti-poverty agency would renovate the building with federal grants, but must own the property to qualify for the grants.
The Board of Supervisors has offered to sell the property for 20 annual payments of $14,000. In addition, the county has offered to donate up to $90,000 to repair the roof.
