ODU STUDENT DIES FROM CRASH INJURIES
An Old Dominion University student from Franklin County has died from injuries suffered in a Dec. 29 automobile accident here.Kenneth H. Stoneman, 19, was pronounced dead at 3 p.m. Thursday at Roanoke Memorial Hospital, according to Trooper Danny Tibbs of the Virginia State Police.
Stoneman was returning alone from Roanoke at 3 a.m. when the car he was driving ran off the right side of the road, hit an embankment and rolled over several times, Tibbs said.
Stoneman, who was wearing a safety belt, was pinned in the car for more than an hour until he was discovered unconscious by a newspaper carrier on his morning route, Tibbs said.
The trooper said it appeared that Stoneman may have fallen asleep and drifted off the road. There was no evidence of alcohol, he said.
Stoneman was home on Christmas break from his sophomore year at ODU in Norfolk.
