JAMES RIVER BOYS SWAMP ROCKBRIDGE 62-52 IN PIONEER

James River led by two points after three quarters, then pulled away to beat Rockbridge 62-52 in a Pioneer District boys' basketball game Friday night.

The Knights (7-5, 7-3) led 36-34 before finishing strongly to beat the visiting Rebels.

Solan Wooden, in his second game after returning from injury, tied Ryan Shotwell for James River scoring honors with 11 points.

Mike Chambers of Rockbridge (3-9, 2-8) led all scorers with 15. \

HOT SPRINGS - Todd Jenkins had a career-high 24 points to lead the host Chargers to a Pioneer District victory despite 36 points from the Rockets' David McPherson.

Jenkins had 11 points in the third quarter, when the Chargers (8-3, 7-2) extended their eight-point halftime lead to 15 points, 65-50.

McPherson had 14 points in the first quarter and finished with seven 3-point goals for Craig County (1-10, 1-8), and Robby Huffman added 19 points.

Bath County's balanced attack included 14 points each from Matt Sherrard, Craig Phillips and Mike Reese. \

North Cross 51

The visiting Bulldogs roared out of halftime with a 26-8 run to pull away for a Virginia Independent Conference rout of the Raiders.

Jamie Elder led all scorers with 22 points for the Bulldogs (9-2, 5-0).

Marcus Cardwell scored 13 for North Cross (6-8, 3-3). \

Sam Donnelly had 14 points to lead the Eagles to a Virginia Independent Conference victory over the visiting Tornadoes. Roanoke Valley Christian (6-7, 4-4) outscored Timberlake Christian (3-11, 0-5) in the fourth quarter to put away the victory. \

The Bulldogs (7-3) blew open the game with a 25-point fourth quarter in a rout of the host Raiders. Jenni Desaegher scored 21 points and Mandy Ferguson 17 for LCA. They combined for 23 in the final quarter. Brandy Markell led North Cross (3-8) with 12 points. \

Timberlake Christian 29

Brandi Surkamer scored a game-high 18 points and Stephanie Webb had 10 to lead the host Eagles' Blue Ridge Conference victory over Timberlake Christian (7-4, 2-2). After a slow start, Roanoke Valley Christian (8-4, 6-0) went to a full-court press in the second quarter and took control, outscoring Timberlake 21-3 to lead 24-13 at halftime. Surkamer scored 11 points in the period, and she had seven steals and seven rebounds in the game. \
