OBIT BURTON, V.
BURTON, VELMA D. Velma Catherine Dunbar Burton died Friday in a Radford
hospital. She was born June 4, 1915 in Monroe County, W.Va. She was preceded
in death by her husband, John B. Burton, formerly of Scottsburg, Va. The past
two years she had been a resident of the Wheatland Hills Retirement Center in
Radford. An active member of the Bethel Baptist Church in Scottsburg, she was
a former Sunday School teacher, chairman of the Flower Committee, president of
the W.M.U., and an Adult Choir member. She was also a former president of the
Bethel Home Demonstration Club. Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Joe
E. and Patricia W. Burton, Radford; two grandchildren, Jason Burton,
University of Richmond, Va.; Melissa Burton, Radford. The family will receive
friends from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. Sunday at the DeVilbiss Funeral Home. A
memorial service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Sunday at the First Baptist Church
with the Rev. Kent Taylor officiating. Funeral services will be Monday at 2:00
p.m. at the Bethel Baptist Church in Scottsburg with the Rev. Steve Pollard
and the Rev. Harold Crute officiating. Interment will follow in the church
cemetery. DeVilbiss Funeral Home, Radford, is handling the arrangements.
