RADFORD NIPS CAMPBELL FOR 4TH STRAIGHT VICTORY
Doug Day scored 26 points, 18 in the first half, to lead Radford to a 78-75 Big South Conference basketball victory Saturday over Campbell.It was the fourth consecutive win for Radford (9-6 overall, 3-0 in the conference).
The Highlanders led 76-65 with 44 seconds remaining, but Campbell's Salaam Hall and Mark Mocnik each scored a 3-pointer and Radford's Chris Hawkins converted only two of four free throw attempts as the Camels closed to 78-73.
Billy Ellison's short jumper cut the lead to 78-75 with four seconds to play, but Campbell (7-7, 1-3) could not foul to stop the clock.
Radford made 10-of-20 3-point attempts, including 6-of-10 by Day, the Big South's leading scorer.
Highlanders forward Stephen Barber scored 17 points and became the eighth player in Radford history to top the 1,000-point career mark. Barber now has 1,013 points.
Campbell shot 55 percent (28-51) from the field, but turned the ball over 18 times and made 10 of 21 free throws. Radford had 11 turnovers, including only four in the first half as it gained a nine-point edge.
Radford will play at Coastal Carolina at 7:30 Monday night. \
