FATHER, DAUGHTER DEAD IN SHOOTING
A 75-year-old Pulaski County man and his daughter died Saturday in an apparent homicide-suicide, Sheriff Ralph E. Dobbins said.James Walter "Pete" Guynn and Bonnie Jean Guynn Owen, 56, were found in a residence in the Mount Olivet section of western Pulaski County about 6 a.m.
Bonnie Owen was found dead in a back bedroom and her father was unconscious in a living room at the front of his house. He died at Roanoke Memorial Hospital after being airlifted by Lifeguard 10.
Police went to the residence after James Guynn's son alerted police in Winston-Salem, N.C., that there might be trouble. Winston-Salem police contacted the Pulaski County Sheriff's Department.
The son, who lives in Winston-Salem, had talked to his father before the shooting.
Both Guynn and Owen were shot in the chest with small caliber pistols. Authorities recovered two pistols from the residence.
Police believe Guynn shot his daughter and turned a pistol on himself.
Dobbins said Owen had been staying at her father's house after separating from her husband.
Both bodies have been sent to the state medical examiner's office in Roanoke for an autopsy.
Three people died from gunshot wounds in Pulaski County this weekend. Shanna Burnette, 29, died Friday after being shot in the face outside a Kentucky Fried Chicken restaurant in Pulaski.
Her husband, John Burnette, 30, was charged with involuntary manslaughter.
