VINTON MAN CHARGED IN VIDEO STORE ROBBERY

A 25-year-old Vinton man has been charged with robbing a Grandin Road video store clerk, who said a man pointed a gun to her head and ordered her to remove her clothes.

Tony Lee Myers of 200 block of Foxland Avenue is charged with robbery and use of a firearm. He was released on $1,000 bond following his arrest on Friday.

Court documents allege that Myers took $108 in the robbery Wednesday.

Shelli Pearce said she was working alone at the counter of the American Video Outlet store when a man entered around 8:30 p.m. After he couldn't provide the necessary ID to join a video club, he started out of the store, whirled, came around the counter with a pistol and demanded money.

Pearce said she at first refused to hand over the money, but finally gave in. The man then grabbed her, lead her to the store's office, and ordered her to remove her clothes.

She refused.

He later tried to take her engagement ring from her hand, but left when she pulled her hand and ring back and placed her hand in her pocket.

Her father, Scott, came up from the back of the store where he was working just in time to see the robber leave. The man ran down a side street and police were unable to find him that night.
