2-CAR WRECK INJURES 4
Four people were injured in an Orange Avenue automobile accident late Sunday that sheared one utility pole from its base and broke another. Two cars were involved - one wrapped around the pole and another lying on its top.
Rescue workers at the scene said at least two of the injured appeared to be in critical condition. Police were still investigating late Sunday.
Car fragments - including an alternator - were scattered along the eastbound lanes of the divided roadway near E.J. Thomas Market. A broken one-way sign was in the median.
Police had blocked off both westbound lanes of Orange Avenue as Appalachian Power Co. workers attempted to replace the damaged poles and emergency services workers cleared away debris.
