OBIT SMITH, J.

SMITH, JOHN S. John Samuel Smith, 90, of Route 4, passed away Monday, January 20, 1992 in a Bedford Nursing Home. He was born in Bedford County, on August 22, 1901 a son of the late Samuel T. Smith and Nannie Ramsey Smith. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Gladys Murray Smith. He was a retired farmer and a member of Hickory Grove United Methodist Church. He is survived by his present wife, Kate Johnson Smith; a daughter and son-in-law, Betsy and John Hodges, Bedford; two sisters, Mrs. Minnie Lee Craghead, Bedford; Mrs. Sarah Bohannon, Salem; two grandsons, Thomas W. Hodges, Lynchburg; Mark S. Hodges, Bedford; five great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, January 22, 1992 at 11:00 a.m. from Updike Funeral Chapel by Rev. John Mitchell with interment in Oakwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
