NS authorizes funds to improve van linesNORFOLK - Norfolk Southern Corp.'s board of directors has authorized $76.5 million for capital improvements at its North American Van Lines Inc. subsidiary, the company said Monday.
The projects at the Fort Wayne, Ind.-based freight transport company include $26.4 million to buy 232 tractors and 770 trailers and $4.7 million to buy additional equipment for expansion of Commercial Transport, North American's freight-hauling division.
Another $17 million is designated for the purchase of 135 tractors and 192 trailers to replace equipment and $4.7 million to purchase more equipment for Transtar, North American's refrigerated carrier unit.
Norfolk Southern also said $4.4 million will go toward buying 153 replacement trailers for High Value Products, North American's specialty transport unit. - Associated Press
