WYTHE, BLAND CONSIDERING WASTE TRANSFER
The Joint Wythe-Bland Public Service Authority is looking into transporting waste from its two counties to other landfills instead of building a regional landfill of its own.The authority learned at its meeting Monday night that it might have to charge tipping fees as high as $60 a ton to pay for its planned landfill. That was its estimate from Draper Aden Associates.
It decided to seek proposals from other regional landfill agencies to see if the cost would be less to haul trash from Wythe and Bland counties to other localities.
The authority re-elected Andy Kegley as its chairman and Olin Armentrout vice chairman. Kegley and Armentrout hold those same positions on the Wythe County Board of Supervisors.
