FOX STATION RETURNS TO THE AIR
The Fox television network's channels 21 and 27 returned to the air Tuesday night after more than four days of transmission problems. The station had been off the air since midnight Thursday.
Robb Gray Jr., vice president and general manager, said the station's clients and suppliers "certainly understand" the problem.
He said the loss of signal was "catastrophic," but the station had kept count of programming and commercials that were missed while the station was out.
Gray, in New Orleans for a convention, said in a telephone interview that he regrets the station's viewers missed two basketball games during the outage.
Gray said investigation of the trouble with the transmission lines and transmitter on Poor Mountain showed that installation was "improper" when the station first went on the air.
"The good news is that we've made corrections" and the station will be better than it was before, he said.
Some of the replacement parts had to be manufactured for the repairs, he said.
The station, known by call letters WPJR and WVFT, serves the Roanoke and Lynchburg areas. The station broadcasts simultaneously on Channels 21 and 27 and is seen on Channel 8 on the Cox Cable Roanoke system.
