PAIR OF WORKERS HURT IN FACTORY EXPLOSION

A furnace exploded at a car parts plant Tuesday, injuring one employee, authorities said.

The explosion occurred about 5 p.m. in the rear of the Carbone of America plant just outside Farmville, said Prince Edward Sheriff's Deputy D.L. Bowman.

Michelle Woolridge, director of human resources at the plant, said a male employee suffered a neck or chest injury in the explosion. A female worker injured her arm when she fell while trying to leave the building after the explosion, she said.

The two were treated in the emergency room at Southside Community Hospital and were in stable condition Tuesday, a hospital spokeswoman said. - Associated Press
