SOME KIDS CAN'T PAY FOR ICE CREAM
I WAS INFORMED earlier in the school year by a child that elementary children are being allowed to purchase ice cream on a daily basis at school. This disturbs me because some parents may not be financially able to send their children to school with ice-cream money. It may be hard to come up with money for lunch.
So, what do the children who cannot afford the ice cream do? Sit while the other children have ice cream?
I do not understand how a school can have a treat offered only to children who can afford it. It seems to me if a child receives a free or reduced lunch, they should receive free or reduced ice cream. Or maybe ice cream could be limited to one day a week. This situation seems unmannerly and inconsiderate to lower-income families. DENISE WOODSON ROANOKE
