CITY VOTER REGISTRAR QUITS, CITES HEALTH
Roanoke voter Registrar Sharon Carrington has resigned for health reasons.Carrington, who had been registrar for 2 1/2 years, submitted her resignation to the city Electoral Board this week.
Melba Pirkey, chairwoman of the board, said Wednesday that Carrington has done an excellent job since she took over the job when Audrey Franklin retired in 1989. Carrington had been an assistant registrar under Franklin.
"She has been an outstanding employee and we are sad to lose her," Pirkey said.
Carrington worked for the city for 16 years, including several years in the Personnel Management Department before she began working in the registrar's office.
