CHIEFS STIFLE REBELS
Those "other" Roanoke Valley Rebels hit the road Wednesday night and turned in another loss, 6-1 to the Johnstown Chiefs. The Rebels (13-23-3), in last place in the East Coast Hockey League's Eastern Division, have become known for looking sharp in victories at home and falling apart in big losses on the road.
Wednesday night offered more of the same.
"We came out good in the first period for the first couple of shifts and I thought we were going to do good," coach Roy Sommer said. "Then we went flat and got caught standing around."
When the Rebels stood around, goalkeeper Mike James paid the price. The Chiefs (25-12-2) pelted him with 53 shots, including 20 in the first period, after which Johnstown led 2-0. James had 47 saves.
\ ICE CHIP: Wayne Muir scored for the Rebels, who return to the LancerLot in Vinton for games Friday night and Saturday night against the Dayton Bombers.
