GUN CHECK CAUSES MAN'S DRUG ARREST
A man sought since 1989 on charges of selling prescription drugs to an undercover policeman was arrested Monday while trying to buy a firearm from a Wytheville store.Robert G. Whalen, 38, is charged with selling a Schedule 3 drug, a misdemeanor. The outstanding warrant turned up when Whalen's application to buy a gun went through the state police computer.
He was later arrested by town police at his apartment in Longview Village. He is free on an unsecured bond pending a Feb. 28 hearing. - Southwest bureau
