GROUP IS FORMED TO PROMOTE BELL CONGRESSIONAL CANDIDACY
A "Draft George Bell for Congress" committee has been formed and has registered with the Federal Election Commission.Bell, a Blacksburg businessman, is chairman of the Montgomery County Republican Party.
He had earlier expressed an interest in seeking the GOP nomination to challenge Ninth District incumbent Democratic Rep. Rick Boucher of Abingdon this fall and has attended a school for Republican candidates.
Jo Strickler, director of the committee, said in a press release that Bell is a "solid conservative that believes in traditional family values, fiscal responsibility and educating our youth."
After a draft committee is formed, a candidate has 45 days to announce his intentions.
The only announced Republican candidate at this time is Lewis Sheckler, a professor of music at Radford University.
