MONTGOMERY MAN CHARGED WITH BOOTLEGGING VIDEOS
A Montgomery County man was indicted by a county grand jury Wednesday on 16 counts involving bootleg videotapes. The indictments charge that Gerald Wayne Mlynski, who was a co-operator of the former Country Market store on Virginia 8, stole more than 40 videotapes from King Video of Christiansburg over a three-month period last year.
The grand jury returned 15 indictments for petty larceny and one felony indictment of transferring "videocassettes for the purpose of rental by King Video Inc. without the packaging containing the true name and address of the manufacturer."
Commonwealth's Attorney Phil Keith said Mlynski is suspected of renting the videos, copying them, counterfeiting stickers to put on the copies and returning the copies to King Video.
Keith said King Video "became suspicious and marked some of the tapes when he was getting ready to rent them."
State police obtained a search warrant and found the tapes in Mlynski's possession, Keith said. He said Mlynski said the tapes were for his personal use and not to rent to customers of Country Market, which closed in December.
