LITERACY VOLUNTEERS PLANNING READATHON

The New River Valley chapter of Literacy Volunteers of America will hold its annual readathon Feb. 8, 1-5 p.m. at area public libraries.

Children and adults are encouraged to participate by having people pledge money for the amount of time they read that day. Sponsor sheets are available at the libraries. Money raised helps the chapter tutor adults who cannot read above a fifth-grade level or those who are learning to speak English as a second language.

Donations are also being accepted by mail. The address is P.O. Box 96, Christiansburg, Va., 24073. Snow date is Feb. 15. For more information, call 382-7262.
