DISABILTIES ACT COMPLIANCE SEMINAR

A seminar on how to comply with the new Americans with Disabilities Act for business owners, managers and personnel directors will be offered Feb. 19 at the Appalachian Power Co. auditorium from 9 a.m. to noon.

The $25 fee includes written materials and refreshments. Reservations must be made by Feb. 12.

Deborah Wood Dobbins, a partner in the Pulaski law firm of Gilmer, Sadler, Ingram, Sutherland and Hutton, will lead the seminar. She specializes in Workers' Compensation and labor law.

The new federal act, which prohibits discrimination against the disabled, becomes effective July 26 for employers of 25 or more people, and two years after that for employers with 15 to 24 workers. Parts of its public accommodations provisions are effective Sunday.

The seminar's three sessions will include an overview of the act, its employment provisions, and public accommodations. Registration will start at 8:30 a.m. Further information can be obtained by calling 980-1360 or 639-0027.
