TOWNLEY, JAMES M.

James Marcus Townley died January 24, 1992, at a Salem hospital following a long illness. Born March 31, 1909, in Ronceverte, W.Va., Greenbrier County, he was the son of the late Julian James and Sarah Ann Lee Townley. He was preceded in death by a sister, Mildred Lee Townley, and a brother, Julian Gordon Townley. Mr. Townley was a resident merchant and businessman in Ronceverte and Greenbrier County for more than 50 years. He served as deacon and elder in the Ronceverte Presbyterian Church before moving to Salem where he attended Salem Presbyterian Church. He attended school at Emory & Henry College and Lee High University. He was a veteran of World War II. Mr. Townley was a 50 year Mason, a Shriner, a member of Beni Kedim Shrine, Charleston, W.Va. Surviving are his wife, Frances Basham Townley; a daughter, Peggy Aide Radike and son-in-law, Paul Arthur Radike; grandchildren, Frances Townley Aide, Martha Lezlee Radike, and Alexandra Lee Radike, all of Roanoke; sister-in-law, Mrs. Ada B. Holcomb, Salem. Graveside services will be held 2:00 p.m. Sunday, January 26, 1992, at Riverview Cemetery, Ronceverte, W.Va., with the Rev. Weston B. Guthrie officiating. There will be visitation. In lieu of flowers the family requests contributions be made to the American Lung Association.
