DOCTOR'S TV INTERVIEW SUBPOENAED
Federal prosecutors have subpoenaed a network news program's videotaped interview with a fertility specialist accused of fraud for using his own sperm to impregnate patients.ABC's "PrimeTime Live" television show is scheduled to air an interview with Dr. Cecil Jacobson on Thursday.
The subpoena, issued Friday by the U.S. attorney's office in Alexandria, requests that prosecutors be allowed to view the unedited tapes of the interview.
"The matter is in the hands of our attorneys," said Rena Terracuso, a spokeswoman for the program.
Jacobson, 55, who practiced in Vienna, has been charged with 53 counts of fraud and perjury. He is accused of impregnating seven of his former patients in the 1970s and 1980s with his own sperm.
But prosecutors have said the doctor, who now lives in Provo, Utah, may have fathered as many as 75 children. He could be sentenced to up to 285 years in prison if convicted on all counts.
Jacobson pleaded innocent in November.
