DOCTOR SUED IN CONTRACT DISPUTE
The federal government is suing a doctor who refused to practice with the National Health Service. The government is seeking $238,550 from Dr. Vanessa Johnson. Her schooling at the Medical College of Virginia was paid by the government with the understanding she would spend three years with the National Health Service, which provides health care in rural and poor areas.
Johnson, 33, could not be reached for comment.
U.S. Attorney Richard Cullen said Johnson was assigned to begin her three-year practice at a clinic in Wilmot, Ark., in July 1986. According to the government, Johnson refused to go.
Under her contract, the government is entitled to three times the grant money paid Johnson, plus interest, for breaking the contract, the suit said.
