GEORGETOWN DEFECTOR PICKS WAKE FOREST

Charlie Harrison, a sophomore at Georgetown who left the school last week reportedly to attend a junior college, has enrolled at Wake Forest, school officials said Saturday night.

Harrison was a starting guard for the Hoyas in 12 games this season, averaging 11.3 points per game. At the time of his departure, coach John Thompson said Harrison was stepping away from basketball "to enable him to strengthen his GPA."

At the time of Harrison's decision, announced Jan. 17, he and Thompson were to discuss whether he would return to the Big East school.

"We recruited him out of high school and feel that he is the type of person, student and basketball player who will be successful at our school and in our program," Wake Forest coach Dave Odom said.

"The people at Georgetown were cooperative in seeing that his enrollment here went smoothly from an academic standpoint and we certainly appreciate that help."

Harrison joins another ex-Georgetown player, Anthony Tucker, as a member of the Demon Deacons. In all, six players have left the Hoya basketball program in the last three seasons. - Associated Press
