LONGWOOD WRESTLERS WIN W&L INVITATIONAL

Longwood College placed wrestlers in nine of 10 weight classes Saturday to win the 15th annual Washington and Lee Wrestling Invitational.

Winning individual titles for the Lancers were Kevin Haller (126 pounds), Ted Proctor (167) and Mark Helberg (190).

Peer Soderberg was Washington and Lee's only representative in the finals. The 177-pounder placed second to Art Whitaker of Newport News Apprentice.

LaSalle's Vinne Ernst won the 158-pound division and was chosen the tournament's outstanding wrestler.

Longwood won the team title with 81 points, followed by Newport News Apprentice (61), Gardner Webb (57.5), Davidson (30.25), Messiah (28.5), LaSalle (27.75) and Washington and Lee (22). - Staff report
