BASSETT SURVIVES 2 OT AGAINST WILLIAM BYRD

After getting blown out by 20 points Friday night, William Byrd battled through two overtimes before falling 75-74 to visiting Bassett in boys' basketball Saturday.

Stacy Valentine made a layup with 30 seconds left in the second overtime to put Bassett (7-5) up by a point. William Byrd (6-5) fouled him and he missed the free throw, but the Terriers' Brian Young missed the final shot from the foul line that would have won it.

Bassett's Dytanyon Norman led the way with 28 points and Art Wade added 24. David Robertson paced William Byrd with 23.

Donald Childress scored 12 of his 22 points in the first quarter as Byrd jumped out to a 21-16 lead. The lead see-sawed throughout the game from there.

Bassett's Norman scored with nine seconds remaining to tie it in the first overtime and Byrd missed a shot to win it. Norman also hit a 3-pointer late in the fourth quarter to take Bassett from two points down to one up. Chris Adcock then made a free throw to to tie it for the Terriers.
