COUGARS TOP GLENVAR IN PIONEER BASKETBALL

A late 8-0 run lifted Covington over Glenvar 65-56 in a Pioneer District boys' basketball meeting Saturday night.

It was the third loss in a row and the second to the Cougars in eight days for Glenvar (7-3, 7-3), which started the season 7-0.

Covington (9-3, 9-1) led 50-47 with five minutes remaining and then had three straight steals - two by Keeno Jones - which led to eight unanswered points.

Van Wallace led all scorers with 17 points for Covington, the first-place team in the district. Jones added 13 and Ramon Sampson 12.

Matt Woolwine had 19, Scott Highberger 12 and Kenny Hodges 11 for Glenvar.
