MARLINS ESCAPE MAROONS

Scott Spruill made four free throws in overtime Sunday to lift Virginia Wesleyan past Roanoke 76-68 in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference.

With five seconds left in regulation, David Cohen hit two free throws for Virginia Wesleyan (10-5 overall, 6-2 ODAC) to make it 64-61.

Tamara Jones hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer for Roanoke (8-9, 5-5) to tie it at 64.

Rick Chalk led the scoring with 24 points for the Blue Marlins. Spruill had 16 points for the Marlins and Walt Lassiter added 14. Cohen had nine points and 10 assists.

Bryant Lee scored 18 points and Mike Murphy had 17 points for the Maroons. ROANOKE COLLEGE (68)
