BLANKENSHIP, BEN H., SR.
Ben Henry Blankenship Sr., age 77, of 503 Ninth St., Altavista, died Saturday evening in Lynchburg General Hospital. He was the husband of Esther Howell Blankenship. He was born in Bedford County January 26, 1914, the son of the late Henry Edward Blankenship and Clara Ashwell Blankenship. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Altavista. Mr. Blankenship was a former owner and operator of Altavista Hardware and a member of the National Retail Hardware Association. He was a charter member of the Altavista Moose Lodge and a past member of the Altavista Lions Club. Besides his wife, he is survived by one son, Ben Henry (B.H.) Blankenship Jr., Rustburg, Va. A graveside service will be conducted by Dr. Roland Johnson at Mt. Horeb United Methodist Church Cemetery 2:00 p.m. Tuesday. The family will receive friends at Finch & Finch Funeral Home in Altavista, Va. Monday from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. and other times at the residence. The family suggests that those wishing to make memorials please consider First Baptist Church Building Fund or the Altavista Lifesaving Crew.
