GRAVES, JAMES W.

James W. Graves, age 66, of Salem, passed away Saturday in a local hospital. He was a retired local builder and an inspector for HUD. He was a member of First Baptist Church; a member of Lakeland Masonic Lodge #190 A.F.&A.M. and a member of the Scottish Rite as a thirty-second degree mason. Mr. Graves was a past patron and member of Williamson Road Chapter 119 of the O.E.S.; a member of the U.C.T. where he was a past grand officer. He was a member of T.P.A. and a recipient of the civitan Good Samaritan Award. He was a lifetime board member of the American Cancer Society; a past president of the International Laryngectomy Association. He was the founder of the local Lost Chord Club and he was a True Voice for the Voiceless. Mr. Graves was preceded in death by his father, Allen W. Graves. He is survived by his wife, Janet M. Graves, Salem; mother, Elois K. Graves, Roanoke; son and daughter-in-law, James W. Graves, II and Deborah Graves, Roanoke; daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and David Price, Roanoke; three granddaughters, Jennifer Ann Price, Betsy Leigh Graves, and Sarah Elizabeth Price; mother-in-law, Dalphine F. Metz, Roanoke. Funeral services will be held at Oakey's South Chapel, 11:00 a.m. Tuesday with the Rev. John D. Cochran and Dr. Harry Y. Gamble officiating. Interment will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens with Masonic rites by Lakeland Lodge No. 190 AF & AM. Flowers are acceptable but donations may be made to the American Cancer Society. An Eastern Star service will be held on Monday evening at Oakey's South Chapel at 7:30 by the Williamson Road Chapter No. 119. Friends may call from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m., Sunday and Monday at Oakey's South Chapel.
