TECH, UVA ATTRACT MORE RECRUITS

Virginia and Virginia Tech each received commitments Monday from football prospects ranked in the top 25 in Virginia by the Roanoke Times & World-News.

Greg Terry, a linebacker from George Washington High School in Danville, announced he will sign Feb. 5 with UVa. Terry picked the Cavaliers over Penn State; he also took recruiting visits to Clemson and Penn State.

Terry was selected to the Roanoke Times & World-News Top 25, as was 6-foot-3, 290-pound center Tim Wade from Lloyd Bird High School in Chesterfield. Wade was one of four players to commit to the Hokies.

Other commitments to Tech were from 6-5, 280-pound lineman Jay Hagood from Fork Union Military Academy; defensive tackle Marco Thomas, a 6-4, 275-pounder from Matoaca High School in Ettrick; and 5-10, 178-pound defensive back Danny Dunbar from Southeast High School in Bradenton, Fla.

Tech was not among the schools Wade was considering before Christmas; however, he became interested when there were coaching changes at Notre Dame and Georgia Tech, two of the schools he was considering. Wade has an older brother at Tech.

Hagood, originally from Easley, S.C., did not enroll at Fork Union until the second week of the season, but he became a starter at tight end and defensive tackle by the end of the season. Thomas was a first-team All-Group AAA selection who has raised his grade-point average from the level that kept him from being recruited heavily.

Dunbar picked Tech over Louisville and Rutgers.

Tech has 16 commitments and Virginia has 20.

In addition to Terry, the Cavaliers added 6-5, 220-pound tight end Erich Wiltsee from Woodbury Heights, N.J. Wiltsee visited UVa and Rutgers and turned down invitations from Miami (Fla.) and Penn State. He played quarterback and free safety in football and is averaging 28 points in basketball, with a high of 45.
