ROCKETS RALLY PAST SHAWNEES
Bland rallied from a 21-point fourth quarter deficit to defeat Shawsville 61-58 in a Mountain Empire District boys' basketball game Monday.Brad Harden scored 13 of his 19 points in the fourth period for Bland (2-7 overall, 2-7 district). Joby Dotson finished with 16 for the Rockets, who were 11-for-18 from the free-throw line in the fourth period.
Shawsville (1-10, 0-10), which was 3-for-10 from the foul line in the final period was led by Kenny Dow with 20 points. \

COVINGTON - Donnie Costigan scored 21 points and converted 5-of-6 free throw attempts in the final quarter as Covington Boys' Home held on to defeat the Oak Hill Academy junior varsity.
Paul Moore scored 20 points and Chris Hicks added 10 for Covington (8-2).

LYNCHBURG - The Chiefs got rid of their "0" in the Virginia Independent Conference victory column by holding off Timberlake Christian.
Center Trent Bowles and guard Andy Sands carried Carlisle (2-11, 1-7 VIC) against Timberlake (0-8 VIC). Sands scored 11 of his 13 points in the third quarter, and Bowles had 11 of his game-high 17 in the second half and eight in the fourth quarter. \
