IN TAZEWELL, TEACHERS WANT RIGHT TO LIGHT UP
Even if students in Tazewell County are not allowed to smoke during school, about 150 teachers want the privilege. The county School Board in August banned all school smoking, but the Tazewell County Education Association formally requested this month that the board reconsider and allow smoking areas for teachers at each school.
Association President Warren Hutchinson said that as a former smoker he knew how those 150 teachers who still light up felt. He asked the board to consider them.
The board took no immediate action. Superintendent Woodrow Mullins said teachers are role models and should not smoke in school.
