MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP TO AID SCOTT COUNTY
Donors are contributing toward a scholarship to be established at Mountain Empire Community College in memory of B.W. "Billy" Frazier, who was Gate City mayor when he died in May.He also had been vice mayor and Town Council member and previously chairman of the Scott County Board of Supervisors, Gate City Sewer Authority and Lenowisco Planning District Commission as well as a member of the state Board of Education.
The scholarship fund will aid Scott County students with academic potential and financial need who are majoring in business, political science or a related field.
A total of $12,000 is needed to fully endow the scholarship so that interest will pay full-time student tuitions annually from now on. So far, more than $5,200 has been received.
